AW Towing Winches for ARC 130 Icebreaker

May 27, 2026

Adria Winch secured a contract to provide towing winches for two icebreaking support vessels in the Aker ARC 130 series. The 121-metre vessels are being built by Vyborg Shipyard for Gazprom Neft and were expected to be delivered in 2017.

Each vessel will be equipped with a Double Towing Winch featuring 2 × 100 tonnes pulling force. The setup includes two mooring drums designed for steel rope in a waterfall configuration, plus a Hydraulic Power Unit. Drum capacity is 7 layers of 700 m of steel rope each. An automatic spooling device ensures neat winding, while electric winches with variable frequency drive control manage operational speeds.

The equipment was engineered for extreme arctic conditions, with design and materials chosen to meet the requirements of harsh environments where temperatures can reach –50°C.
